–FIVE days and counting! Jukebox Jingles IV: “School of Rock” is this Friday!! The orchestra ensembles have prepared blues, jazz and rock’n roll tunes. Admission is FREE. Purchase raffle tickets for a BEACH basket, SLEEP-OVER basket, ROAD TRIP basket, CRAFTS basket, CHOCOLATE basket, MOVIE basket, STAR WARS basket, MARVEL basket, DISNEY basket, and a SPORTS basket.
MS Girl Science/Career Opportunity   to join in for a day of Science at Hope College on Saturday, February 25 from 9 am – 12 pm.  Cost is $15.
 –AUDITION NOTICE! Get pumped! Auditions for the CMS Players’ Spring play, 12 Angry Jurors will be on Wednesday, March 1 from 2:45-6pm in the Cityside auditorium. There will be two short audition workshops on Monday, February 27 from 2:45-3pm and from 3:15-3:30pm. No need to attend both.  Audition packets are available in the office.  Email Mrs. Roels with any questions at taryn.roels@gmail.com.
 Sign up sheets for the Chix Mix are up!  Students may sign up for an audition time outside of Mrs. Landes’s classroom (Room 213).  Auditions are next week Tuesday February 28 and Thursday March 2.  Get your friends (and maybe a teacher or two) together and come up with a spectacular act.  🙂  Don’t miss out on your opportunity to share your talent with the school!

 

 PARENTS’ INFORMATION—-
— Zeeland East Equestrian Jr. Team is ready to start practice and we invite any students 5th-8th grade interested in joining our team to please contact one of our coached for more information.  We will be meeting on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8 pm, starting March 2nd, at the DeWind practice arena just north of Taylor street on 96th Avenue.  Our competition will be held Saturday May 20th at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds, and will last much of the day.  We are looking for riders for the competition and grooms to help out at the meet.  Please contact Emily Siriano @ 616.212.9415 or Carole Rietman @ 616.450.6539.

–Attention all EAST soccer players! Are you looking to improve your game over the summer? Do you want to increase your Agility, Footwork, Endurance, and Mental Toughness? Then ZEST summer training camp is for you! This camp is a five week summer conditioning camp for all East soccer players . Come down to the CBC room and grab an informational flyer! If there are any questions about the camp, email Coach Williams at zwilliam@zps.org.
–Reminder for 8th graders going into 9th grade – If you live in the CREEKSIDE boundaries and and your child attends CITYSIDE the IN DISTRICT TRANSFER REQUEST FORM IS DUE by April 7, 2017.  It can be found on the ZPS website.
–If you live outside of the Zeeland district, and would like to apply for Out of District Schools of Choice for next year, please begin the application process with only the 105 & 105c forms.  These forms can be found on the ZPS website under the enrollment tab.  They will be accepted from February 3 through September 6. Again, this is for Out of District only.
–Summer Edge:  Beginning in June..the following link for information.
 –Parents – It you would like a message delivered to your child near the end of the school day you MUST call the office by 1:25.  Any later and it will not be delivered.

–Crystal Mountain skiers.  The following kids still need to turn in the forms for the ski outing.  Be sure they are turned in ASAP.  Tayton Adkins, Malek Bayn, Brooks Blanton, Katie Bush, Lainey Canan, Brandon Dreyer, Michael Wichers, and Nick Wichers.

–The Zeeland MS Boys Swim and Dive team took on Hamilton last night. Though they fell to the Hawkeyes, with a score of 89.5 – 66.5, they continued to have great individual time drops and great dives.  Leading scorers were, Caden Meyer, Andrew Jipping, Bryce Ketchum, Nate Brinks, Gabe Jarvis, Sean Blackburn,  Aidan VanSoest, Luke Pollack, Colton Hughston, Brendan Schwartz, Gavin Broekhuis, Avery Harbison, Easton Remick..–The swimmers and divers need to meet in the gathering area by the office today until 3.

Outstanding performance: Will Baarman, Justin Vongphrachanh, Jonah DeBoer, Gavin Frody, Preston Stema, Colton Hughston, Dakota Bowers.
–The Zeeland Middle school wrestling team were at home last night against Hamilton and won 57-39. Getting wins were Logan Klunder,  Marty Landes, Carter Hinson, Noah Ledford, Trenton Klunder, Zach Bellis, and Adian Taylor.
–Wednesday night the 7th grade girls basketball team got off to an early lead against Muskegon last night before eventually getting losing to the big reds.  In a physical and aggressive game the lady chix stood tall and got most of the loose balls and some great rebounds and made their coach proud.
–The 7th annual Jukebox Jingles is Friday, February 24 at Cityside Middle School. This year’s theme “School of Rock” will feature blues, jazz and rock ‘n roll tunes performed by the orchestra students. In addition, a 40′ x 40’ maze will be in the small gym: $1 entry fee for one time; $3 entry fee for unlimited. Food, music, baked goods and raffle tickets may also be purchased. ZHS Orchestra in concert at 8:30 in the Lokers Aud. Admission is FREE for the event. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 6:00 pm. for this family-friendly event.

–Art Club is cancelled tonight.  7th and 8th grade Art Club will meet next week from 2:45-4:00.
–The 8th grade girls basketball team played an excellent game last night at Muskegon.  The Chix led after the 1st, and 3rd quarters but the lead slipped away in the 4th after the Chix got into foul trouble.  The team lost 47-35 after a very tough battle.  Leading scorer Haley Diekevers agreed with the team’s strong effort by saying, “We played very well and really hard. It was our best game so far but we came up short”.  Their coach agrees.  It was a fantastic team effort against a talented team.

Event for Middle School Girls and Moms: The hospital is once again holding an Inspirations for Tweens – Tools, Talk and TOMS event on Monday, March 13 from 6-8:30.  –Participants will be able to feast on tacos, and build-their-own yogurt dessert.  Doctor Diana Bitner will lead an interactive conversation about self-esteem, relationship, safe behaviors and body image.  Additionally, girls will be able to design their own one-of-a kind TOMS shoes.  Please call 616.748.2834, or visit, spectrumhealth.org/zeeland for more information, or to register.  (RSVP by March 3 as space is limited).

The 8th grade girls basketball team lost to Reeths Puffer last night, but they just might have played their best game yet.  The girls worked as a team, rebounded better than ever, and did a nice job braking the press.  Their teamwork continues to grow and they always display great sportsmanship.  The Chix are at Muskegon Wednesday night.
–Secret Agents : There will be a meeting this week Thursday during 6th grade DEAR.   See you then!
